The Medical History Society of New Jersey is pleased to announce its Eighth Annual Donald F. Kent Memorial Lecture

On Tuesday January 19 (the night before the presidential inauguration!) at 7:00pm via Zoom, Dr. William H. Frishman will present “The Health and Medical Care of the Presidents: 1789 – 2020.”

The President of the United States holds one of the most important positions in the world. Because the president is elected by the public, a discussion of the health of candidates and elected presidents is important for the democratic process. However, medical histories are now private and protected by law. This is a timely issue in current events, and it is worth looking into previous presidencies to learn about how presidents' health affected their leadership, how the stressors of the position affected their health, and the potential impact of undiagnosed mental illnesses.

Dr. Frishman's talk will illustrate how medical care of the presidents influenced historical events, and how their medical and surgical care sometimes differed from that of the general public.

Dr. Frishman is Barbara and William Rosenthal Professor and Emeritus Chairman of the Department of Medicine, New York Medical College. For more about Dr. Frishman:
